How a Standby Generator Works
- Utility Power Fails – Storms, grid overloads, or downed lines trigger a voltage drop.
- Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) Senses Loss – In < 1 second the ATS commands the generator to start.
- Generator Starts & Stabilizes – Within 5–10 seconds the engine reaches operating speed and produces clean 240 V power.
- ATS Transfers Loads – Your selected circuits—or the whole house—shift from utility to generator power.
- Utility Restored – ATS safely re-connects you to the grid and cools the generator. No manual cords, no refueling hassles.

Our load-calculation software measures starting watts of A/C compressors, well pumps, and critical circuits. We then recommend a model with at least 20 % headroom for future appliances.
Yes. A properly sized whole-house generator and 200 A ATS will run all circuits, including HVAC. Smaller “essential circuits” setups are available if budget or gas supply is limited.
Most residential units run on natural gas or propane. Larger commercial models can be ordered in diesel. We verify gas meter capacity or tank size during the site survey.
Generac recommends service every 200 hours or 12 months, whichever comes first. Our maintenance plans include semi-annual visits to keep warranties valid.
